The five phased renovation of the Central Sterile Processing Department brought significant challenges. The primary challenge, maintaining operations throughout, was solved through careful planning and coordination. Between Arch Nexus, the owner, department staff and consultants, the hospital was able to maintain their CSPD services throughout construction without interruption. Another significant challenge, given the renovation in a facility built over 50 years ago, was addressing unforeseen conditions uncovered during construction. By triaging solutions with the project construction team, we were able to prioritize submittals to HCAI (OSHPD), based on complexity and in consideration of construction schedule and sequencing. Using an approach that values every team member’s expertise including HCA’s input at key points, we were able to generate the most effective and simplest solutions.
